Aogami "Aoko" (Blue Paper Carbon Steel) ![Aogami Super (Hitachi Metals Ltd.) is one of the greatest Japanese Carbon Steels. In addition to containing more Carbon, Chromium and Tungsten than Blue Steel No. 1, it also includes Molybdenum. A highly sought after steel by knife makers for being more forgiving in the forging process than white carbon, blue carbon is not as pure as Shirogami. Blue carbon steel adds tungsten and chromium for rust resistance and is more wear resistant. Blue Paper Steel (“Aoko” or “Aogami” in Japanese) has a high level of stickiness and abrasion resistance thanks to chromium and tungsten, so it can keep you from worrying about chipping-off and wearing-out of a blade. The positives of using blue steel over stainless steel and carbon steel are that it provides the best of both worlds. Blue steel is more flexible than stainless steel allowing professionals to have a nuance to their profession. Blue steel is also more rust-resistant than carbon steel. Blue steel holds its edge longer than a white steel knife. Feature of Blue Steel are excellent cutting performance, retain maximum sharpness and easy to sharpen.](https://duncansgunmakers.co.uk/catalog/media/info_icon.png) |

Komotaro Nagao ![Handcrafted in Japan using techniques more than a century old, Nagao Higonokami blades are as much a work of art as a blade tool. Using materials such as Hitachi Blue Steel and crafting such as hand forging and hammering, Nagao Higonokami blades stand as an example of quality and dedication.](https://duncansgunmakers.co.uk/catalog/media/info_icon.png) |

Japan (Miki, Hyōgo Prefecture) ![A higonokami (肥後守) is a type of folding pocket knife originating in Miki, Hyōgo Prefecture, Japan in 1896. The knife has no locking system, but is a friction folder or "penny knife", using the friction of the swivel or the pressure of the user's thumb on its iconic lever or chikiri, to prevent the knife from folding during use. The handle of the Higonokami is made of a folded over sheet of metal. The handle is stamped with the name of the maker of the knife and the steel used in the blade. A distinguishing feature is that the blade has a flat grind without a secondary bevel. The name "Higonokami" is now trademarked by the Miki Custom Knife Guild in Miki City near Osaka, and it decides which brands can be associated with the name. However, only one fifth-generation manufacturer KaneKoma (from its Nagao Kanekoma Factory in Miki) is legally allowed to call its knives exclusively "Higonokami". The company is over 100 years old and thus has seen 5 generations take over the company. It started with the man himself Komataro Nagao that established Hirata Knife, being the original designer of the Higonokami and the main reason the company exists to this day. 2nd generation saw Shiegharu Nagao take over production & register the company trademark. 3rd Generation Akira Nagao took over production & kept the company afloat. Motosuke Nagao was the 4th generation & made sure Nagao Kanekoma (The Factory) was the only producer of the Higonokami knife- other manufacturers must refer to their products as "Higo" or "Higonokami-style". Most recently Mitsuo Nagao has taken over operations & is primarily focussed on innovation for the brand.](https://duncansgunmakers.co.uk/catalog/media/info_icon.png) |

Description:
Everything about the Japanese Higonokami pocket knife emanates tradition. In the past everyone in Japan, including school children, used to carry a knife like this. The Higo No Kami pocket knife was used to sharpen pencils and for many other tasks.
The blade is easy to open with the 'chikiri' (the lever at the end of the blade). As is common for this type of knife, it doesn't have a lock and the blade completely disappears inside the handle when closed.
The handle is made from stainless steel and has a black-green enamel with a glitter effect.
Aogami (blue paper steel)
Blue paper steel is a modern high-performance steel. It is made by removing impurities from SK steel and adding extra tungsten and chromium. This improves the sharpness retention. However, this steel is not corrosion-resistant.
