Heat Treated ![Heat treating is a part of the knife making process that is designed to help harden the steel of the blade for use. Heat treating can be accomplished in four steps: normalize, quench, temper, and sand. Water is one of the most efficient quenching media where maximum hardness is desired, but there is a small chance that it may cause distortion and tiny cracking. When hardness can be sacrificed, mineral oils are often used. If you don't heat treat a blade the blade will not remain sharp or straight. It is prone to chipping and bending. Essentially, you'll have a knife-shaped metal piece. Even if the blade steel is good, it is useless until it is hardened.](https://duncansgunmakers.co.uk/catalog/media/info_icon.png) |

Red Poplar Wood ![Talking about Poplar burls means talking about luxury Wood veneer. It is a clear wood surface showing fine grain texture and very decorative figure. Burls are tight and tiny which makes possible to use this veneer for small pieces and decorative details. Poplar wood is considered easy to work with. It is easily polished, stained or painted and can take nails without splintering, making it a good choice for the manufacture of many items including knives and furniture.](https://duncansgunmakers.co.uk/catalog/media/info_icon.png) |

Morotti Attilio ![Attilio “Atti” Morotti was born in Bergamo in 1957 and lives in Villa di Serio, a town in the Bergamo area at the beginning of Val Seriana. He is married and has a daughter. He started working at a very young age in a mechanical workshop specializing in oil-pneumatic constructions, where he performed various tasks, including managerial roles. Attilio has engaged in various sports disciplines (athletics, gymnastics, tennis, downhill skiing, mountaineering skiing, and cross-country skiing); since 1993, he has practiced archery at the Malpaga "Bartolomeo Colleoni" Archery Company in Bergamo. Before becoming interested in knife-making, his passion for archery led him to build wooden bows, a skill reflected by the arrow in his logo. Another great love of Attilio Morotti has always been motorcycles; as a motorcycle tourist accompanied by his wife, he has traveled all over Italy and much of Europe. He was introduced to the world of knives through collector friends who invited him to visit an exhibition showcasing the creations of master knife-makers. He was greatly impressed by the craftsmanship and the high-quality finishes of these products, which fascinated him. From that exhibition, he developed a strong desire to pursue this craft and immediately began making a fixed-blade knife. He completed his first knife on December 13, 2002, and continued making fixed-blade knives for just over a year before moving on to folding knives. Without formal training, but with determination, a passion for craftsmanship, and the advice of renowned experts (Emilio Albericci, Eligio Ambrosioni, Silvester, and especially Claudio Volpato, a generous and skilled knife-maker with whom he established a collaborative relationship), Attilio achieved recognized quality in his folding knives. On June 2, 2007, he was awarded the title of "Master of the Italian Knife-makers Guild."](https://duncansgunmakers.co.uk/catalog/media/info_icon.png) |
