Description:
The Spyderco Caly 3.5 C144CFPE is a fancy gentleman's knife from Japan. The 3.5 in the name stands for 3.5 inch, which is 7.6 cm. With it Spyderco is talking about the edge, and not the length of the blade including the finger groove. The Caly 3.5 is perfect for anyone who felt the Caly 3 was too small or who prefers a slightly larger gentleman's knife.
This Caly 3.5 has a blade made from two types of laminated steel. So a specific type of steel as a core and a second type of steel that is wrapped around the core. Often a really hard type of steel is used as a core to make sure the knife remains sharp for a very long time. The side is often made from softer types of stainless steel. With this knife they also used a laminated blade. The core is made from the very strong ZDP-189-steel, and the sides from 420J2-steel. This creates a wavy line on both sides of the blade above the edge, which will be different on every Caly 3.5. It truly makes every Caly 3.5 unique!
The handle is enhanced with a stunning carbon fibre handle that is mounted on steel liners. They give the knife a nice look and feel. The blade on the Caly 3.5, like on all Spyderco's is locked by a backlock. The finish on the spine of the handle is sublime. It looks as if the steel liners, backlock and steel backspacer are made from one piece of steel. Exactly what we have grown accustomed to from the Japanese Spyderco factory.
