The DP-28 is a Soviet light machine gun known for its iconic pan magazine and reliable performance. Designed by Vasily Degtyaryov and adopted in 1928, it fired the 7.62×54mmR cartridge and served as the primary light machine gun for the Soviet infantry during World War II.

The DP-28 features a distinctive 47-round top-mounted pan magazine, a simple gas-operated mechanism, and a sturdy design that could withstand harsh conditions. Despite its slower rate of fire compared to some contemporary machine guns, it was valued for its ease of use, durability, and low production cost.

Used extensively by Soviet forces throughout World War II and beyond, the DP-28 was affectionately nicknamed the "record player" due to its round magazine. It was later improved with the DPM variant and partially replaced by the belt-fed RP-46, remaining in service in various conflicts well into the 20th century.
