Description:

The BSA Buccaneer is a line of air rifles made by BSA Guns (UK) Limited, the airgun division of the historic Birmingham Small Arms Company (BSA) in England. BSA has been a major name in British firearms and airguns for over a century, and the Buccaneer name has been used on both classic spring-powered models and modern pre-charged pneumatic (PCP) rifles.

History

Original BSA Buccaneer (1977–1985)... The first Buccaneer was a budget-friendly, break-barrel spring-piston air rifle introduced in 1977 as an entry-level gun aimed at younger or beginner shooters.

The original springer had a brown plastic stock (right-hand only), adjustable rear peep sight, simple break-barrel action with a 125° cocking arc, and a safety catch. It shared parts with other BSA models like the Meteor barrel and Scorpion pistol action.

It came with a basic kit including pellets, oil, and even a barrel extension for easier cocking. Production ended in 1983, with leftover stock sold until 1985. It was never a high-end gun but was popular for plinking and learning the basics.

The Upgraded Buccaneer Pro

Modern BSA Buccaneer Pro (current model)... The Buccaneer name was revived for PCP air rifles, and the latest version is the Buccaneer Pro (released around 2025). This is a fully modern, British-made PCP that's widely praised for its accuracy, value, and build quality. It's positioned as an affordable yet premium-feeling rifle suitable for target shooting, plinking, and small-game hunting.

What are users saying?

Reviewers call it well-balanced, accurate (sub-MOA groups at 25 yards are common), and great value—especially with the new regulator and side-lever upgrade over earlier Buccaneer PCP models like the SE.

In short, if someone says “BSA Buccaneer” today, they’re almost always talking about the current PCP models (especially the Pro), but the name goes back to that simple 1970s springer.

It’s a solid choice if you’re looking for a reliable, accurate British air rifle without spending a fortune. Let me know if you want links to reviews, specs for a specific caliber, or comparisons to other guns!

Pre-charged guns have compressed air tanks fitted that need refilling
