Cerakote ![Cerakoting is the art of applying a high tech, liquid ceramic coating to a given firearm or knife and then allowing it to either air dry or dry with an oven. How long does it last? Cerakote is a permanent ceramic finish that is designed to last the lifetime of the firearm. Cerakote could strongest and most durable and most rust resistant coating there is, but it is no magic bullet. The coating can still be abused by rough handling and rough holsters. Overall cerakoted blades have incredible physical performance with superb properties in abrasion, chemical resistance & corrosion resistance. You don't have to worry about it peeling or flaking off over time, it generally lasts years.](https://duncansgunmakers.co.uk/catalog/media/info_icon.png) |

Lock Type : |
Button Lock ![While not quite as strong as lockback or crossbar lock mechanisms, button locks are comparable in strength to pocket knives with frame locks or liner locks. In practice, a button lock knife is strong enough to handle any challenge you'd reasonably expect to face with a pocket knife. A button lock is a folding knife with a push button that allows the blade to lock into place and not move until the button is then pressed again. When the button is pressed on button lock pocket knives, the lock is released allowing the blade to deploy. When compared to a liner lock, a button lock is easier and quicker to disengage. A liner lock is a side-spring lock and, much like the button lock and the frame lock, can be opened and closed with just one hand. When it comes to the frame lock, the lock is built into the handle with no extra parts which tends to lead to simpler and cleaner designs. A button lock mechanism is as strong as the knife’s frame. Because the button lock’s spring rests on a cutout in the blade’s frame, tension is created when the tang of the knife pushes against the button, which is embedded into the frame. Button lock knives are so popular because they are exceptionally smooth and lightweight. There tends to be less steel used on a button lock than on other lock styles, which helps keep the weight down. It also allows for the blade to glide smoothly without any obstacles. These knives are extremely fidget friendly, which is a huge factor in their popularity. You can open them using the opener, such as the flipper tab or thumb studs, but you can also open these knives by pressing the button down and flicking your wrist, as we mentioned before. You could spend hours opening and closing you button lock knife.](https://duncansgunmakers.co.uk/catalog/media/info_icon.png) |
Safety : |
Switch Safety ![Some knives will have a safety switch, similar to that found on a gun. Safety switches are extremely useful as they act as a second lock mechanism paired with the knifes lock type. These safety switches are easily engaged, usually by the push of a button, switch or bar. Safety switches are extremely reliable & highly satisfying to use, effectively turning your knife into a fixed blade within a matter of seconds.](https://duncansgunmakers.co.uk/catalog/media/info_icon.png) |

Blade Treatment : |
Cryogenically Treated ![Cryogenic treatment is a common process designed to enhance the performance of metal blades. Extreme deep freezing increases the service life of knives by improving their resistance to wear. As a one-time treatment, freezing knife blades makes them more durable and less prone to chipping and fracturing under stress. A cryogenic treatment is the process of treating workpieces to cryogenic temperatures (i.e. below −190 °C (−310 °F)) in order to remove residual stresses and improve wear resistance in steels and other metal alloys, such as aluminum. This treatment type will slightly increase the price of the knife but the value it provides far outweighs the cost.](https://duncansgunmakers.co.uk/catalog/media/info_icon.png) |
Handle Material : |
Aluminum , G10 ![Unlike more traditional knife handle materials, G-10 won't crack, break, chip, or scratch easily. G10 is a versatile material that was originally used for printed circuit boards due to its high-temperature durability and non-conductive properties. It was later discovered to be a great material for knife handles and even gun grips due to its moisture-resistant characteristics. G10 handles are very durable with a very high level of strength, meaning they will last for a very long time even under heavy use in both wet and dry conditions. G10 is also commonly used for underwater applications due to its strength, durability, and highly water-resistant properties. It is also non-flammable & non-conductive. G-10 is the designation for a glass-based epoxy resin laminate. What that means is that you take a glass-based cloth (fiberglass, in other words), soak it in an epoxy resin, and then using heat and pressure compress it into the shape you want.](https://duncansgunmakers.co.uk/catalog/media/info_icon.png) |

Allen Elishewitz ![Allen Elishewitz has been making knives since 1988. He makes custom watches and pens as well. He has been practicing martial arts over the last 30 years and served with the 4th Recon C Company. He was exposed to various art forms at a young age;has a Bachelor Degree in Criminal Justice, and a Associate Degree in Fine Arts. His background in martial arts, recon, and visual arts are evident in his knives. All his knives are hand-made using only manual machines. Each knife is thoughtfully designed with nothing but quality, durabilty, and craftsmanship in mind. All Allen's knives are made by hand using manual machines. He does not employ CNC machines or outside vendors to aid in the creation of his knives. Each and every aspect of the knife is thought-out, designed and executed to ensure that it can be handed down for several generations. The tight tolerances that are used to make the knives, the over-engineered components and many other often overlooked details, is what make Elishewitz Custom Knives so unique. All his knives are guaranteed against flaws in the craftsmanship. However certain natural materials such as ivory and wood are not covered due to their unpredictability. Disassembling, abusing or tampering with the knife will void the warranty and a fee will be charged to repair any damages.](https://duncansgunmakers.co.uk/catalog/media/info_icon.png) |

Description:
The Hogue X5 3.5” is a rugged pocket knife, designed by Allen Elishewitz. It is a button lock flipper. It is a fairly unusual combination. You open the X5 with the flipper and a button lock holds the blade in place.
As you would expect from Hogue, a veritable handle manufacturer, the X5 feels fantastic in the hand. The side of the handle is inlaid with a beautiful piece of G10 for extra grip. The finger grooves ensure that your grip is rock-solid. The blade is made of CPM154 steel and it has a black Cerakote coating. It's razor-sharp and has an appealing shape.
Because the Hogue X5 has a button lock and opens with a flipper, the detent (which keeps the blade in place when closed) is an important feature. On a frame lock knife, the lockbar provides the detent. But with a button lock, there is no detent. Hogue has sought out a different solution to this problem, so the X5 flips differently than other knives. Which is a special experience.
With its X5, Hogue has brought a pocket knife into the top segment of the market. In form, function, materials and finish, it's nothing short of fantastic!
