[Gerber] Flatiron Blue Micarta, 30-001795

The blade has a rough stonewashed finish and is made from D2-steel. A decent and easy to sharpen type of steel. Do, however, be careful with rust: D2 is not completely stainless. This means that it won't rust in your hands, but salt water or fruit acids can cause discolouration. The Gerber Flatiron is easy to open with the elongated thumb hole. The finger groove at the start of the blade gives you a lot of control and ensures that your index finger doesn't accidentally slide forward as you use the knife. Better safe than sorry!

The handle is made from stainless steel and micarta. The rough surface of the micarta scale offers enough grip to make sure the knife won't slip from your hand as you use it. When opened the blade is locked with a robust framelock mechanism. An interesting detail is the enormous overtravel stop. This prevents that the lockbar is pushed too far from the frame as you unlock it. The overtravel stop is larger than average and enhanced with a subtle elevation. As such your fingers rest on the overtravel-stop, and not on the lockbar. This makes opening the Flatiron a lot easier. The wide, square pocket clip is also very unique and ensures that you can comfortably carry the knife on your pocket.

Again Gerber demonstrates that they can produce amazing knives within this very appealing budget-segment. The Gerber Flatiron is a strong knife that is meant to be used!
