Brass ![With copper as its base constituent, brass is among the most durable metals around. It can last for thousands of years if properly stored and maintained; it's completely rust resistant & can withstand high pressures due to it's brilliant tensile strength. Brass is a great conductor of heat and is corrosion-resistant, especially to galvanic seawater corrosion. It casts well, is reasonably durable and attractive, and even possesses some antimicrobial qualities thanks to its high copper content. Brass is an alloy. That means it's a mixture of other metals: primarily zinc and copper. Other metals that are sometimes added to brass in small amounts include tin, iron, aluminum, silicon, and manganese. When it comes to its strength, it's really thanks to being an alloy that brass is such a sturdy metal.](https://duncansgunmakers.co.uk/catalog/media/info_icon.png) |

1075 Carbon Steel ![A commonly used high carbon steel with a wide range of applications due to the typical benefits of steel. 1075 steel exhibits high yield strength and is softer as well as more bendable than 1095, but has less spring. Swords forged from 1075 high carbon steel are very tough. It is very easy to sharpen the blade and it keeps its edge very well. With its high carbon content of 0.75%, it is prone to corrosion. A steel frequently used for larger blades and swords, but used just as regularly in everything from bowies to kitchen knives, 1075 is tough, durable, and hypo-eutectic, which means it is very forgiving during heat treatment across a wide range of quenching fluids employed by the knife community–a very convenient option.](https://duncansgunmakers.co.uk/catalog/media/info_icon.png) |

Walnut Wood ![Walnut... One of our favourite materials here at Duncans. Walnut is a very strong and stable wood that can take intricate carving. The color can be beautiful. Although walnut trees are widespread and relatively common around the world, walnut timber is one of the most luxurious and expensive non-exotic woods available on the market. Ultimately, hardwoods work best for knife scales, because they are very durable, this makes Walnut appealing for a knife handle. The only disadvantages to Walnut are; with it being a hardwood it's heavy, it can also bleach with excessive sun exposure. Afterall though, these are some small drawbacks.](https://duncansgunmakers.co.uk/catalog/media/info_icon.png) |

Nylon ![Nylon has both excellent strength and abrasion resistance, allowing it to stand up to any sport. It has a fantastic elastic recovery meaning that fabrics can stretch to their limits without losing their shape. Besides, nylon has good resistance to sunlight, making it an excellent choice for activewear. Nylon is a generic designation for a family of synthetic polymers composed of polyamides (repeating units linked by amide links). Nylon is a silk-like thermoplastic, generally made from petroleum, that can be melt-processed into fibers, films, or shapes.](https://duncansgunmakers.co.uk/catalog/media/info_icon.png) |
