Blade Finish : |
Stonewashed ![Stonewashing creates a distressed look on the knife blade by literally distressing the blade using friction. The technique comes from its name, as it involves running a knife blade through the dryer with small stones and a lubricant to create abrasions on the face of the blade. A very positive benefit of stonewashed blades/handles is that they are low maintenance and preserve their original look overtime; the stonewashed finish hides the scratches that can occur with use over time.](https://duncansgunmakers.co.uk/catalog/media/info_icon.png) |

Frame-Lock ![A framelock (also frame lock) is a special type of locking mechanism used in one-handed knives. Generally considered to be more sturdy & reliable than a linerlock, the general open and close methods don't vary much; the only real difference between the two variations is that with a liner lock as the blade opens a separate liner engages to lock the blade, however in a frame lock a whole portion of the frame engages to lock the blade. Detailed description: In almost every frame lock, a detent ball engages with a hole in the base of the blade to keep it closed, as well as providing tension for a snappy opening. A stop pin mounted above and forward of the pivot locates the blade's end position when opened, also helping to eliminate wear on the lock bar.](https://duncansgunmakers.co.uk/catalog/media/info_icon.png) |

Ceramic Ball Bearings ![Ceramic balls are rounder, lighter, harder, and smoother than steel balls due to their lack of porousness. This reduces friction as well as energy loss, allowing your equipment to run more efficiently (and for longer) with ceramic ball bearings. They are able to run without lubrication, have low thermal expansion, are normally low density and have non-magnetic qualities. Ceramic bearings are said to be three to five times harder than steel bearings.](https://duncansgunmakers.co.uk/catalog/media/info_icon.png) |
Blade Material : |
D2 ![D2 tool steel is a high carbon and high chromium-based grade that features excellent machinability and wear-resistance. This grade has maximum toughness at high hardness in sections of all sizes. It is heat treatable and will offer a hardness in the range 55-62 HRC, and is machinable in the annealed condition. D2 steel shows little distortion on correct hardening. D2 is a happy medium between stainless and high carbon steels. It's easy to work and looks nice, but because it's air-hardened steel you can't differentially temper the blade like other High Carbon Steels. It can also be difficult to sharpen. D2 steel create excellent resistance to wear from sliding contact with other metal or abrasive materials. D2 is a premium steel of a special segment, which is appreciated by many experts in this field. The alloy has a high level of resistance to corrosion, wear, as well as all kinds of loads and mechanical stress. This steel has a high wear resistance and creates a tough knife that holds an edge.](https://duncansgunmakers.co.uk/catalog/media/info_icon.png) |
Blade Treatment : |
Heat Treated ![Heat treating is a part of the knife making process that is designed to help harden the steel of the blade for use. Heat treating can be accomplished in four steps: normalize, quench, temper, and sand. Water is one of the most efficient quenching media where maximum hardness is desired, but there is a small chance that it may cause distortion and tiny cracking. When hardness can be sacrificed, mineral oils are often used. If you don't heat treat a blade the blade will not remain sharp or straight. It is prone to chipping and bending. Essentially, you'll have a knife-shaped metal piece. Even if the blade steel is good, it is useless until it is hardened.](https://duncansgunmakers.co.uk/catalog/media/info_icon.png) |
Handle Material : |
G10 ![Unlike more traditional knife handle materials, G-10 won't crack, break, chip, or scratch easily. G10 is a versatile material that was originally used for printed circuit boards due to its high-temperature durability and non-conductive properties. It was later discovered to be a great material for knife handles and even gun grips due to its moisture-resistant characteristics. G10 handles are very durable with a very high level of strength, meaning they will last for a very long time even under heavy use in both wet and dry conditions. G10 is also commonly used for underwater applications due to its strength, durability, and highly water-resistant properties. It is also non-flammable & non-conductive. G-10 is the designation for a glass-based epoxy resin laminate. What that means is that you take a glass-based cloth (fiberglass, in other words), soak it in an epoxy resin, and then using heat and pressure compress it into the shape you want.](https://duncansgunmakers.co.uk/catalog/media/info_icon.png) |

[Stainless] Steel ![Like all other kinds of steel, stainless steel is made primarily from iron and carbon in a two-step process. What makes stainless steel different is the addition of chromium (Cr) and other alloying elements such as nickel (Ni) to create a corrosion-resistant product. It's worth noting that over time and if not maintained correctly, rust can and will develop on stainless steel. Stainless steel is an extremely tough and highly durable material with high impact resistance. Part of the reason for this is that stainless steel has low susceptibility to brittleness at high and low temperatures. It has a design life expectancy of over fifty years.](https://duncansgunmakers.co.uk/catalog/media/info_icon.png) |

Dirk Pinkerton ![I began seriously making knives in 2005. That was when I purchased my first real grinder. How I got there came from a life long interest in knives. My father and brother always carried a knife and felt it was essential tool. For my father a pocket knife was something he used daily for any task. While he could appreciate the work and craftsmanship that went into a beautiful knife, he always believed them to be a tool first and to be used. I believe that is where I learned my design principals for knives. Most of my work is in straight forward, functional knives designed for a task, and to be used. My professional career was 18 years in the private security field for a large corporation. In that time I was able to train and work closely with several protection details, law enforcement, S.W.A.T., fire and life rescue, various military units and the Secret Service. Through this experience I began to understand how knives were looked upon as tools and weapons. This experience added a different dimension to my designs. It made me think about carrying and using a knife beyond a tool just for utility. During this time, I began collecting knives and became friends with legendary knife maker and designer, the late Darrel Ralph. Besides being my friend he was also my mentor. He opened the door to my knife making career. I used to bug him to make me knife that I designed or to modify one of his. Finally, he told me he made his designs and that if I wanted a particular design, I should learn how to make it. So, I did. He was always there to answer questions and give me subtle ideas on how to do something. He let me make mistakes and he celebrated my successes. He is missed. My knives are in use with US Military, Law Enforcement, EMS, around the world with many countries military and law enforcement agencies, along with people who just need a good knife for utility or self defense.](https://duncansgunmakers.co.uk/catalog/media/info_icon.png) |
