Description:

The Higonokami Koriwa Turquoise EDC Knife demonstrates a gorgeous use of patina to develop a bright blue patina on the brass handle.

A higonokami (肥後守) is a type of folding pocket knife originating in Miki, Hyōgo Prefecture, Japan in 1896. The knife has no locking system, but is a friction folder or "penny knife", using the friction of the swivel or the pressure of the user's thumb on its iconic lever or chikiri, to prevent the knife from folding during use. The handle of the Higonokami is made of a folded over sheet of metal. The handle is stamped with the name of the maker of the knife and the steel used in the blade. A distinguishing feature is that the blade has a flat grind without a secondary bevel.

This version features a 2.88" blue paper steel high carbon steel blade with zero ground edge that is both easy to sharpen, and extremely durable. Japanese blue paper steel is a premium carbon steels made in Japan and comes heaped in traditions and confidence. The handle is made from brass in the traditional Higonokami fold over design that's both comfortable and super non-complicated. This version has been specially tarnished to go a deep turquoise colour. There is a reason these knives have been so popular for so long, and put simply, they offer excellent performance at unbeatably economic prices.

Aogami (blue paper steel)

Blue paper steel is a modern high-performance steel. It is made by removing impurities from SK steel and adding extra tungsten and chromium. This improves the sharpness retention. However, this steel is not corrosion-resistant.
