The Böker Club Knife Gentleman, Desert Ironwood is a classic pocket knife. Perhaps the knife you see in your mind when you think of a generic classic pocket knife. That was how they were produced in the past! In the United States they also call this a 'Boy scout knife'. A knife you open with two hands enhanced with a slipjoint. Nothing more, nothing less. But really cool!
The blade is made from N690 steel. A stainless type of steel from Austria that is easy to maintain. Easy to sharpen and tough enough to handle quite a lot. The handle is made from desert ironwood. A heavy, great type of steel with a stunning pattern.
Desert Ironwood (Certified Import) is one of the strongest materials for a handle, it is extremely durable and stands the test of time, think of this material like titanium, just not quite with the same lightweight properties that make titanium so appealing; although this is subjective- some people like a bit more weight in their knife so Desert Ironwood can sometimes be a better choice, especially when you consider the beautiful grain that really shines when treated properly; it gives similar results to a high grade walnut. Our main designer Mr. Cromwell says that with little care (as long as the desert ironwood has been treated with correct oils initially), Desert Ironwood can last up to around 600-800 years. Yes you read that correctly. Desert Ironwood will come at a premium cost though, as like titanium- this material is extremely difficult to work with due to the extreme hardness. Generally only experienced knifemakers and companies will utilize this material.
You open this knife with two hands and when opened the slipjoint makes sure the knife doesn't close when you don't want it to. Please note: it doesn't completely lock the blade like a backlock!
