[Viper] Oniro Orange G10, CPM Magnacut

The Viper Oniro is a cool EDC pocket knife, designed by Italian designer Denis Simonutti. Its size is perfect for allround EDC use. Carry it in your pocket and always have it at the ready. Personally, we think its sizeable belly makes it great for food preparation. Peeling an apple, making a sandwich, you name it. It is also well-suited for more intense use during chores or for opening packages. The spine of the blade is nicely rounded, a nice, typically Italian detail.

The Viper Oniro Orange G10 pocket knife, is a nice EDC pocket knife in the colour orange. With its blade length of 8.3 cm, this knife is ideal for easy carrying. When closed, it's only 10.8 cm long, and it weighs 100 g.

Opening the knife with one hand is very easy thanks to the thumb stud. Once opened, the sturdy Crossbar Lock ensures that the blade is locked and won't accidentally close during use. A cool feature of this lock is that it can be easily used by both left-handed and right-handed users.

The name 'Crossbar Lock' is a generic term for locks of this type. The foundation of this mechanism was the Axis Lock as developed by Benchmade. Today, several manufacturers happily make use of the same mechanism, though sometimes under different names.

The blade of this Viper Oniro is made of CPM Magnacut steel, possibly the most revolutionary steel of the 21st century. MagnaCut offers an unrivalled balance between sharpness retention, toughness, corrosion resistance and ease of sharpening. Since the release of CPM MagnaCut in 2021, it has become one of the most popular steels in the world of knives. The MagnaCut blade of this pocket knife measures 8.3 cm in length.

This type of steel was developed by Dr Larrin Thomas, a metallurgist who has dedicated his career to improving knife steel. He is the son of Devin Thomas, a famous damascus smith who supplied Chris Reeve Knives with steel for many years. Dr Larrin Thomas works in the automotive industry but is passionate about knife steels. He thought it should be possible to do better, and together with Crucible Industries came up with CPM MagnaCut.

The ‘stonewash’ process was chosen for the finish of this blade. The stonewash process involves the blade being placed inside a drum with ceramic stones, or media, and then vibrated or tumbled for several hours. The result is a finish that looks precisely polished or roughened depending on the version. The advantage of stonewashing, however, is that signs of use are much less noticeable. That makes it a popular choice for knives that see a lot of use.

The Viper Oniro features a handle made from G10 and measures 10.8 cm in length. G10 is a composite material made of glass fibre and synthetic resin. With its subtle texture, G10 feels great in hand and offers plenty of grip. Moreover, it is incredibly strong, so it can take a beating.

This Viper Oniro was designed by Italian designer Denis Simonutti. An avid mountaineer, he quickly earned the nickname 'tarantula' among friends. Hence, the spider logo. He has some great innovations to his name and regularly releases cool new designs.
