Description:
The Medford USMC Flipper is a cool pocket knife, based on the famous fixed USMC-f**hters knife. Greg Medford turned this iconic design into a top quality pocket knife. You open it with the flipper, or the royal thumb groove. The large handle is made from titanium and like with the fixed version the handle has been enhanced with grooves. In between the titanium scales you will find a titanium backspacer which is placed on the handle like a type of 'buttcap'. According to Medford this is extremely difficult and expensive to produce, because it is difficult to clamp it in a milling machine and because the tolerances are very strict.
The blade is made from CPM S35VN steel. The hollow grind on the blade was applied by hand. This is a unique feature: only a rare few producers apply a hollow grind by hand. When opened a solid framelock keeps the blade in place. Medford pressed the stop-pin in the blade. As a result it symmetrically leans against the handle. This adds strength.
This version of the Medford USMC Flipper has been enhanced on the backspacer and handle with an ultra tough black PVD-coating and the clip has a stonewashed finish.
Each Medford knife is made by hand by talented knife makers. Individual differences therefore occur and make each knife unique. It takes approximately one year for Medford to ship their knives from order, but this one is in stock and ready to ship to your doorstep within around a month!
Blade Made of CPM S35VN Steel
The blade of this Medford Praetorian is made of CPM S35VN steel. This is a premium type of stainless steel made by Crucible Industries in the US. S35VN retains its sharpness well, is pretty tough and very corrosion resistant.
Titanium Back Handle
The handle is made of solid titanium and measures 13.3 cm in length. Titanium is a fantastic high-tech material. It is an excellent choice for the handle of a pocket knife for several reasons: titanium is very strong, lightweight and it is flexible. Moreover, titanium can be machined very precisely and a wide range of different finishes are possible. To be exact, the handle is made of a titanium alloy. Small amounts of aluminium and vanadium are added to pure titanium to make it even more suitable for use as a pocket knife handle.
About Medford Knives
Medford Knives are impressive, sturdy, and above all, unique. The brand was founded by knifemaker Greg Medford, who started Medford Knife & Tool with the aim of creating honest, top-quality knives. He oversees the entire production process in-house. Every component of a Medford folding knife is made in his own factory in Phoenix, Arizona, USA. All blades are hollow-ground by hand by Medford and his skilled craftsmen—something very few manufacturers do. Medford even refers to his production method as 'Hand Tech.'
Each Medford knife is handcrafted by talented knifemakers, meaning individual differences occur, making every knife one of a kind. Medford's lead times are around a year. However, if a knife is listed as in stock on our website, that means we have it in stock; ready to ship. Be quick—new stock can take a long time to arrive!
