Description:
The Medford M-48 is an homage to the American M-48 Patton combat tank from the 50s. The handle has a milled pattern that matches the tracks of this tank. Greg Medford designed the M-48 as an EDC knife. It is suitable both for first responders and for Medford enthusiasts who prefer a slim pocket knife. 100% made in the United States, from American materials, by a veteran-run company.
The M48 is a hefty EDC knife in the colour black. With its blade length of 10.1 cm, it's especially suited for demanding cutting tasks. This is not a compact knife! When closed, it measures 11.9 cm in length and it weighs 105 g.
Opening the M-48 is quick and easy thanks to the flipper, which you can do one-handed of course. The pocket knife is equipped with ball bearings to make the action of the blade super smooth. Once opened, the frame lock ensures that the knife is locked and won't unintentionally close.
Blade Made of CPM S35VN Steel
The blade of this M48 is made of CPM S35VN steel. This is a premium type of stainless steel made by Crucible Industries in the US. S35VN retains its sharpness well, is pretty tough and very corrosion resistant.
The ‘stonewash’ process was chosen for the finish of the right titanium slab. The stonewash process involves the titanium being placed inside a drum with ceramic stones, or media, and then vibrated or tumbled for several hours. The result is a finish that looks precisely polished or roughened depending on the version. The advantage of stonewashing, however, is that signs of use are much less noticeable. That makes it a popular choice for knives that see a lot of use.
Titanium Back Handle
The handle is made of aluminium with a back scale of titanium. Titanium is a fantastic high-tech material. It is an excellent choice for the handle of a pocket knife for several reasons: titanium is very strong, lightweight and it is flexible. Moreover, titanium can be machined very precisely and a wide range of different finishes are possible. To be exact, the handle is made of a titanium alloy. Small amounts of aluminium and vanadium are added to pure titanium to make it even more suitable for use as a pocket knife handle.
About Medford Knives
Medford Knives are impressive, sturdy, and above all, unique. The brand was founded by knifemaker Greg Medford, who started Medford Knife & Tool with the aim of creating honest, top-quality knives. He oversees the entire production process in-house. Every component of a Medford folding knife is made in his own factory in Phoenix, Arizona, USA. All blades are hollow-ground by hand by Medford and his skilled craftsmen—something very few manufacturers do. Medford even refers to his production method as 'Hand Tech.'
Each Medford knife is handcrafted by talented knifemakers, meaning individual differences occur, making every knife one of a kind. Medford's lead times are around a year. However, if a knife is listed as in stock on our website, that means we have it in stock; ready to ship. Be quick—new stock can take a long time to arrive!
