The Civivi Yonder Damascus, Guibourtia Wood is a compact pocket knife that has already proven itself. The Yonder won 'Best Buy of the Year Award' at the Blade Show 2024. This is because the Yonder offers the best combination in terms of materials, ergonomics and price. In short; it's the ideal EDC pocket knife, at a nice price.
The Yonder is a very modern knife featuring a super smooth lock mechanism. With its blade length of 7.3 cm, this knife is suitable for daily cutting tasks. For example, opening boxes, peeling an apple, the odd job around the house: this pocket knife can do it all.
Opening the Yonder with one hand is very easy thanks to the thumb stud. Once opened, the sturdy Crossbar Lock ensures that the blade is locked and won't accidentally close during use. A cool feature of this lock is that it can be easily used by both left-handed and right-handed users.
The name 'Crossbar Lock' is a generic term for locks of this type. The foundation of this mechanism was the Axis Lock as developed by Benchmade. Today, several manufacturers happily make use of the same mechanism, though sometimes under different names.
Damascus blade
The blade of the Yonder is made from damascus steel. It's beautiful and incredibly stylish, but also designed for use. Damascus is created by welding different types of steel together and folding them multiple times, all at very high temperatures and with exceptional craftsmanship. This steel combines ancient techniques with modern skill. The manufacturer doesn’t provide much information about the type of steel, so we can't say with certainty how corrosion-resistant this particular steel is. Therefore, it’s advisable to keep the blade clean and regularly apply a few drops of oil. It wouldn't hurt to apply that piece of advice to your other knives too.
Handle made of wood
The handle of this pocket knife is made of Guibourtia Wood. This is, of course, one of the best-known handle materials for knives. We always recommend taking good care of a wooden handle. Do not expose a wooden handle too much to moisture and regularly coat the wood with oil or wax.
