The ProForge Putrid is a refined iteration of its predecessor, the Contagion, designed to elevate an already exceptional knife through thoughtful enhancements.

Retaining the high-quality Takefu Special Steel VG10 Japanese blade, the Putrid maintains excellent edge retention and corrosion resistance while achieving a lighter profile by trimming excess weight and removing the thumb-stud for a cleaner look. The razor-sharp Drop Point blade operates on a smooth ball bearing system and is deployed effortlessly via a flipper tab for one-handed opening, ensuring both functionality and ease of use.

 

Upgraded Handle

Significant upgrades are evident in the handle, where the design has been streamlined by reducing grooves and cutouts, resulting in a smoother, more ergonomic surface with enhanced contours for a comfortable grip. The handle is slimmer, contributing to the knife’s overall weight reduction, while a custom-cut G10 backspacer replaces the heavier stainless steel one, adding a modern aesthetic and further lightening the knife. Japanese VG10:

We haven't made many changes to the blade, we feel as though we got this right first time. The blade profile was shaped for optimal maneuverability, with a modified drop-point geometry that balances piercing power with slicing efficiency, allowing for controlled cuts without unintended slips. At the core is Japanese VG-10 stainless steel from Takefu Special Steel Co., a benchmark alloy celebrated since the 1960s for its high-carbon composition (approximately 1% carbon) blended with 15% chromium and cobalt additions. This yields superior hardness (59-61 HRC), extraordinary edge retention that endures heavy abuse, and super corrosion resistance, often enhanced by lamination for added toughness and maintenance ease; making it a favorite among professionals for blades that stay sharp longer than conventional steels.

 

Additional refinements include a bead-blasted pocket clip for a premium, scratch-resistant finish and higher-quality, more flush torx screws for improved durability and aesthetics.
