Knife Sharpening in Hull

Professional Knife Sharpening Service

Bring your knives to our store for professional sharpening, and we’ll restore their edge to peak performance. Our expert sharpeners use precision techniques tailored to your knife’s material and size, ensuring a razor-sharp finish every time.

Please Note: If your knife has MAJOR chips or cracks in the blade, we may not be able to sharpen it.
If your blade has been on a grinding wheel or anything similar, it will have damaged the heat treatment therefore destroying the structural integrity of the steel.

 How It Works

  • Drop-Off: Bring your knives to our store during business hours.
Turnaround Time:
  • 1–2 knives: Ready for collection the next day.
  • For every additional 2 knives, add 1 extra day (e.g., 4 knives = 2 days, 5–6 knives = 3 days).
  • Collection: Pick up your freshly sharpened knives on the scheduled day.
Pricing
Pricing is determined by two factors: blade length (measured in inches, rounded up to the nearest inch) and blade steel type (based on HRC hardness).

For example, a blade measuring 1.51 inches is costed as 2 inches. The steel’s hardness affects sharpening time, with some premium steels taking up to 5 times longer than basic stainless steel. Each additional inch of blade length increases the cost, calculated per inch according to the steel’s HRC category. While higher-quality knives often use harder steels, this isn’t always the case.
Pricing Structure
  • 50–55 HRC: £2.00 per inch
  • 56–60 HRC: £2.60 per inch
  • 61–65 HRC: £4.00 per inch
  • 66+ HRC: £6.00 per inch
Example: A 6.3-inch knife (rounded up to 7 inches) with 56–60 HRC steel costs 7 × £2.60 = £18.20 to sharpen.
Quantity Discounts
Save more when you bring in multiple knives. Discounts apply to the cheapest knives in your order (based on total sharpening cost per knife):
  • 3–4 knives: The third and fourth cheapest knives receive 30% off their sharpening cost.
  • 5–6 knives: The third through sixth cheapest knives receive 35% off their sharpening cost.
  • 7+ knives: The third through all additional cheapest knives receive 40% off their sharpening cost.
Discount Example: You bring 5 knives for sharpening:
  • Knife 1: 6-inch, 50–55 HRC = 6 × £2.00 = £12.00
  • Knife 2: 8-inch, 56–60 HRC = 8 × £2.60 = £20.80
  • Knife 3: 5-inch, 61–65 HRC = 5 × £4.00 = £20.00
  • Knife 4: 4-inch, 56–60 HRC = 4 × £2.60 = £10.40
  • Knife 5: 7-inch, 50–55 HRC = 7 × £2.00 = £14.00
Sorted by cost (cheapest to most expensive): £10.40, £12.00, £14.00, £20.00, £20.80
  • First two knives (most expensive): £20.80 + £20.00 = £40.80 (full price)
  • Third to fifth knives (cheapest):
    • £14.00 × 0.65 (35% off) = £9.10
    • £12.00 × 0.65 (35% off) = £7.80
    • £10.40 × 0.65 (35% off) = £6.76
  • Total: £40.80 + £9.10 + £7.80 + £6.76 = £64.46 (saves £7.94 compared to full price of £72.40).

Identifying Your Knife’s Steel

To provide an accurate sharpening quote, we need to know the steel type of your knife. Most knives have their steel type marked on the blade:
  • Location: The steel type is typically marked on one side of the blade (often the back or non-logo side) or sometimes on the spine.
  • Example Markings: Look for labels like “VG-10,” “440C,” or “S30V” etched or printed on the blade.

  • No Marking?: If your knife lacks a steel marking, it’s likely a lower-end stainless steel (e.g., 420 or 3Cr13), but this isn’t always the case. Our team can help identify the steel through inspection. If the steel type remains unclear and no documentation is available, we’ll use our expertise to assess the blade and determine the appropriate sharpening cost based on its condition and likely HRC category.
Below is an expanded reference list of common and specialty knife steels, categorized by HRC (Rockwell Hardness Scale) and sharpening complexity, to help you estimate the cost of sharpening your knife. Harder steels require more time and specialized techniques, increasing the price per inch.
